The Ottawa Valley's heart shines through time and time again. 

Inspired by the phenomenal leadership of Atomic Energy of Canada in Chalk River, CFB Petawawa and local industrial leaders such as KI Pembroke, we show how much we care in a variety of ways. 

We’re provincial leaders in the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, which is hosted by CFB Petawawa each year. The United Way supports a number of organizations in our area. 

We reach out to our neighbours and friends in many ways — food banks, car washes, literacy programs. Volunteer opportunities abound! 

We can give you more information on the many service clubs that contribute to our society. Kiwanis, Rotary, Kinsmen and Lions Clubs provide lots of opportunities to meet people and to do good.

Hospital Information For Pembroke And Petawawa 

The Pembroke Regional Hospital provides care and compassion in a progressive atmosphere.

Recent expansions have included a completely new emergency department and a comprehensive stroke and rehabilitation unit that delivers both in-patient and out-patient care on a regional basis. 

More than 75 ambulatory clinics bring specialists into the hospital from larger centres, providing high-level care right here at home. 

We’re now in the midst of a fund-raising campaign to open a six-station dialysis unit in Pembroke. 

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit takes a leadership role in keeping us healthy. It inspires us with all kinds of great ideas and programs. Cycling tours, walking clubs and other initiatives will give you the inspiration you need to get out and live Valley life to its fullest.

The $38 million expansion at the Pembroke Regional Hospital and the new Miramichi Lodge Long Term Care Facility make Pembroke the natural place to locate your health care services business.

As one of our largest employers, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) retains more than 1,900 administrative, trades, technical and scientific staff at its research and development site located approximately 40 km (25 miles) west of Pembroke. Work at the Chalk River site resulted in the successful design of the CANDU nuclear reactor, which supplies safe, clean and cost-effective energy to homes and industries in Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. Chalk River Laboratories also makes significant contributions to improving the quality of life for 70,000 people each and every day around the world as the major supplier of medical isotopes used in both the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening diseases.

Animal lovers will find everything they need to enjoy and care for their finned, feathered or furry friends. Boarding stables, clean and caring kennels, obedience classes and clubs will keep you connected with other pet owners in the area. 

Hobby farms abound in this area. You'll have no problem finding a few acres where you can have your own stable or barn. 

Volunteers can support the OSPCA’s local chapter, and join in fun events such as the Wiggle Waggle Walk-A-Thon to raise funds for its operation.
